there has been over many years an assumption that there is a special relationship between the US and the UK, Thatcher and Regan resulted in the siteing of nuclear bases in the UK and the trident deterant being purchased by the UK.
Blair- Clinton Blair Bush, Blair a Socialist deals with Clinton over Kosovo with success and uncannily the same Socialist stand shoulder to shoulder with W Bush, a republican.
Now David Cameroon, Conservative who has been evaluated by the US as a 'lightweight' has gone on record saying that the UK is a Junior partner to the US has spread an element of realism to the arrangement.
do readers think that the so called relationship is over or neglected, because now is the time to text the UK and say 'its me, not you'

Now that President Obama has made his intentions clear about wanting to withdraw from Iraq sometime in the near future, their seems to be a lack of a common goal which both of them are working on. England will always remain as the USA's number one allie, but it is a litte harder to see that right now.

The governing ideology, amongst other things like a largely Protestant population and a common lineage, are too closely related between the two countries for the special relationship to ever end. A brotherhood was formed a long, long time ago and now the alliance depends too much on each other for there to ever be a serious rift.
The focus of the Obama administration has shifted from global goals (Iraq, Afghanistan, etc.) to domestic goals (healthcare, economy, etc.) and so we don't hear as much about this special relationship as we are used to hearing. That doesn't mean that it isn't there.
