one of the longest rulers in the middle east has asked his cabinet to stand down amidst protest amongst the people.
Mubarack has a terrible record of human rights, but I fear for what a democratic system will deliver there, also take into account Jordan protests and Algerian protests, we could be without many friends in the middle east.

... we could be without many friends in the middle east. Compared to all of the 'friends' we have there now? The West would be foolish to involve themselves with Egypt, at least at this point in time. There is no reason why we should have our hand in every Democratic uprising. The US started it on their own, the French DID it on their own, the English transitioned to it on their own, the Germans did it on their own the first time... Have faith in the People of Egypt. Blood is going to be spilled whether the West gets involved or not. Neither side will be deterred. Let it be, and step in when the time is right.

I think what they will vote for may not be what some want in the 'west' but to interfere would be foolish, but there are reports that the funding of the uprising was assisted by some outside agencies so there is involvement already, as per usual.

God forbid the West gets involved in another unstable and infinitely expensive takeover of another Middle East country. Vietnam. Iraq. Afghanistan. How many more of these will we have to fail before we realize it's best to stay out of them?
